I have always admired handcrafted work—creating wonders with just imagination and hands. Unfortunately, I could never find an Advent calendar that gave me that feeling of wonder, so I thought: 'Wait, I’m the boss of my own chocolate company, right?! Why not make my own Advent calendar?'
Carambole is part of the global bean-to-bar craft chocolate movement. We all know the immense effort behind this movement and how many skilful hands are involved in the chocolate-making process. Since Carambole’s philosophy is to make bonbons exclusively from craft chocolate sourced globally, the calendar follows the same principle. But that's not all:
I’ve crafted a 24-day interactive quest game for it! This year, you’ll take on the role of detectives and join Rita and her animal crew on a thrilling quest to recover stolen spices—just in time for Christmas!
Spices are the theme of Carambole 2024 Advent calendar. 24 of them are hidden in chocolates and to get to them, you’ll need to solve riddles, crack ciphers, and maybe even brush up on your Morse code. Don't worry, you are allowed to google! Every one of 24 drawers offers a riddle plus stories about the chocolate makers and their creations. Every day there will be a new flavour experience–an excellent new chocolate paired with a spice, sometime iconic, sometimes so rare you'd probably be hearing about it for the first time.
This calendar is not only about chocolate; it's about discovery.
It's great for both families or solo adventurers, it expands kids' knowledge of geography, flavors, and quality chocolate. It's like a small home theater—where it’s all about discovering new worlds and flavors, not just indulging in sweets.
The round handmade box itself is a work of art - featuring illustrations of fine artist from Siberia Nastya Ikusova, plastic-free, and designed to be reused.
After Christmas, it’s perfect for storing jewellery, keepsakes, or whatever your heart desires. The inner packaging is biodegradable, and we've minimized its overall volume.
Throughout the year, I taste countless new bars from the bean-to-bar market, discussing them with industry colleagues and the guests at my tasting events. For my Advent calendar, I’ve handpicked 10 exceptional chocolatiers from around the world. My customers already know my philosophy and the taste of my bonbons, so they trust my taste in chocolate. For them, it’s a guarantee of something special—if Rita’s put it in the box, it’s bound to be interesting!
This selection isn’t based on chocolates available wholesale or balanced by price; it’s about the ones that truly resonate with me and the stories I want to tell. Sometimes, this means working with incredibly rare and expensive chocolate from hard-to-reach makers. I coordinate with producers to receive their creations, and then I temper, mould, and package the chocolate myself. It’s an intensive, laborious process—not the most commercially viable (especially with logistics from places like Mexico and the US), but the results are absolutely worth it.
