In Vietnam's Central Highlands (Dak Lak province), cocoa farming only became professional in the 21st century, despite its introduction in the late 1800s. Today, over 12,000 smallholder farmers grow cocoa alongside coconuts and fruit trees.
In 2017, school friends Truong Minh Thang and Nguyen Duy Thong founded Anh Em Cacao Co. to improve cocoa quality through research on microbial biodiversity and post-harvest processes. Their work led to award-winning chocolate under the Tbros brand, now exported globally—bringing benefits to local communities.
